Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Chief Executive Adam Vivian has welcomed a resolution to the Perth Glory matter.
Vivian’s comments came after the club announced that it had accepted Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) decision to sanction the club over matters related to a breach of the A-League Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
“The Salary Cap is agreed to by the players and is a fundamental element of the current CBA,” said Vivian.
“The players expect the Salary Cap to be complied with and to be well governed. Any breach of this agreement should be penalized appropriately to ensure the integrity of the competition. The players have been incredibly cooperative throughout this process and have not been implicated in the FFA findings.
“The PFA will continue to make sure support services are available for the Glory players during this difficult time and will liaise with each individual player to ensure their rights are protected and that they are informed of their legal standing.
“This comes at a time when the PFA and FFA are at a critical point in the collective bargaining process for the 2015/16 A-League season and beyond. These negotiations pose an opportunity for both parties to review the regulations affiliated with player payments and ensure the most effective and sustainable economic model is adopted for Australian football.”
