The PFA has a highly successful track record in representing players in disputes, both domestically and abroad, specifically at the FFA/PFA Grievance Procedure, FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. Indeed, the PFA has recovered millions of dollars for players in these forums.
Players represented in 2008/09
Given the breadth and diversity of the PFA’s membership base, the PFA is required to represent players in a wide variety of professional circumstances. An understanding of the depth and distinctiveness of the advice given can be ascertained from the following pie charts, which illustrate and measure:
182 players were individually advised and represented by the PFA in 2008, an 82% increase from 2007. Collective matters – such as the enforcement of the players’ superannuation entitlements at Newcastle Jets – are counted as a single matter. Collective negotiations – such as the Asian Champions League talks – are not included in the tables as these form part of the PFA’s collective bargaining activities.
