Melbourne City FC’s influential French midfielder Florin Berenguer has been voted by his peers as the Austraffic PFA Player of the Month for March.

Berenguer edged out Brisbane Roar’s Republic of Ireland midfielder Jay O’Shea and Wellington Phoenix’s Ben Waine in the PFA member voted award, after an impressive month with City.

While sidelined currently with a hamstring injury which has seen him miss his club’s Asian Champions League campaign in Thailand, Berenguer remains one of the stars of the competition, and at 33, still holds influence for the A-League Men’s pacesetters.

The former Ligue 1 player scored twice and delivered one assist in an undefeated month for City, which consolidated their position on top of the A-League Men ladder.

“I would like to say thank you to the staff and my teammates – everyone has done an amazing job on and off the pitch over the last couple of months with a busy schedule,” Berenguer said.

“I’m so glad to be part of this team and I continue to try my best to contribute to the team’s success.”

Berenguer’s win follows a period of individual dominance from City, with Mathew Leckie also winning the award in February, scoring five goals in six games to help deliver City five wins.

The Austraffic PFA Player of the Month is the only player-voted award in the A-Leagues. After each month of A-Leagues action, a PFA Nominations Committee, consisting of football media personalities and former players, provide nominees for the PFA membership to vote on. The awards are proudly presented in partnership with Austraffic.
