From the President

Jackson Irvine

As professional footballers, we are privileged to live out our dreams on the pitch. But with that privilege comes a responsibility: to use our platform to drive meaningful change.

That belief inspired me to step into the role of PFA President, as it aligned with my own vision for football. I firmly believe that, together through the PFA, players can create a legacy that goes beyond the pitch — one that improves the game for future generations while delivering positive change in our communities.

This year's Annual Report, which highlights the PFA's achievements over the past 12 months and celebrates the transformative impact of the Footballers' Trust since its establishment five years ago, demonstrates the positive impact we can achieve together.

Building the Trust alongside my Socceroos teammates and the PFA Executive has been a really rewarding experience. For me, the Trust's work resonates with my values, and witnessing its impact only strengthens my commitment to the PFA. Our ambition is to make the Trust the most impactful sporting charity in Australia, and the evidence from our latest report indicates we're well on our way to achieving that objective.

Reviewing the PFA's outcomes through this Annual Report are just as inspiring: from the Player Development Program's efforts in supporting players' education and mental health, to the PFA's advocacy in resolving complex legal disputes, and proactively building a safer sport for all players.

Yet, our work is far from over. A players' union's mission is never truly complete, as the need to support footballers throughout their careers—and beyond—remains constant.

Looking ahead, I believe the future of Australian football hinges on the strength of its professional leagues. These leagues are the breeding ground for the next generation of Socceroos and Matildas, and as players, we have a crucial role in shaping their future.

The professional game desperately needs a vision that ensures that the leagues thrive, including creating a platform for developing and nurturing talent, safeguarding player wellbeing, and reflecting the values of our football community.

This annual report, alongside the A-League Men report released this week, demonstrates the quality of research and deep understanding the PFA has developed on our industry, and how the players and the PFA are best placed to shape the professional game's future.

I'm inspired to work to bring this vision to life, which we hope will deliver a stronger, more inclusive game that we leave in better shape for those who follow and deliver on the objective of using our platform to drive meaningful change.

Thank you to all of our members for your continued commitment to Australian football and the game.

Thanks

Jackson Irvine
