From the Chief Executive

Beau Busch

Welcome to the 2025 PFA Annual Report.

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding performances of our members across the 2024-25 season.

The Socceroos secured their place at a sixth consecutive FIFA Men's World Cup, whilst Matildas trio Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord lifted the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy.

Melbourne City reached the final of the AFC Asian Champions Women's League and Central Coast Mariners were crowned Champions of the A-League Women. In the first-ever Melbourne derby Grand Final, Melbourne City prevailed to secure their second A-League Men Championship.

This report also reveals that there is much PFA members can be proud of from the 2024-25 season, including:

  • record levels of investment into player education and wellbeing initiatives;
  • world class research and policy development and delivery;
  • the continued development and enhancement of the Past Player Program;
  • over $1.78m recovered by the PFA for members;
  • a healthy surplus to strengthen the PFA ahead of critical industrial negotiations that will shape the future of the professional game;
  • the introduction of new player safety measures such as the RespectX reporting platform; and
  • the development of a new 3-year PFA Strategic Framework.

Whilst it is clear we have much to be proud of, the state of Australian football is a cause of enormous concern for the players. As such, over the past 18 months we have enhanced the PFA's capacity to address these concerns.

Following extensive research and player engagement, we have developed comprehensive visions for the A-League Women and Men. The objective of doing so is to ensure we can secure the future of the professional game.

2024-25 has been foundational in ensuring we can rise to the challenge of tackling Australian football's challenges and build a better game.

Finally, I would like to thank our Executive, Delegates, staff and members across the A-Leagues and the globe for your trust and solidarity.

There is much to look forward to in the coming 12 months and, as always, every one of you has a critical role to play.
