The outstanding efforts of the Melbourne Victory players honoured, as Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) announces the 2014/15 PFA A-League Team of the Season.

Voted on by the PFA’s A-League members, five of the A-League Championship and Premiership winning team were today named in the 16-man squad.

Captained by Adelaide United’s Eugene Galekovic, who was selected in the team for a record fifth time, the shot stopper was joined in the team by two of his Reds teammates.

Having become the fourth coach in the history of the A-League to win the Premiership and Championship double, Victory boss Kevin Muscat was selected as the coach of the team of the season with his former captain Mark Milligan named in the squad for the third time running.

 

The 2014/15 PFA A-League Team of the Season:

Defenders: Tarek Elrich (Adelaide United), Matthieu Delpierre (Melbourne Victory), Andrew Durante (Wellington Phoenix), Scott Jamieson (Perth Glory).

Midfielders: Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory), Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City), Marcelo Carrusca (Adelaide United).

Forwards: Fahid Ben Khalfallah (Melbourne Victory), Marc Janko (Sydney FC), Nathan Burns (Wellington Phoenix).

Substitutes: Danny Vukovic (Perth Glory), Nigel Boogaard (Adelaide United), Milos Dimitrijevic (Sydney FC), Besart Berisha (Melbourne Victory), Gui Finkler (Melbourne Victory).

Coach: Kevin Muscat (Melbourne Victory).

Referee: Strebre Delovski.

 

PFA Chief Executive Adam Vivian hailed those selected in the players’ team and said all were deserving of their recognition.

“The PFA A-League Team of the Season highlights the incredible talent that calls the competition home and I would like to congratulate all those named on being selected in the players’ team,” said Vivian.

“The 2014/15 season reached new heights on the pitch and these players all played an integral part in this.”

Selected for a record fifth time captain Eugene Galekovic said it was an honour to have been voted as the captain of the team.

“The recognition of your peers is the highest honour you can receive as a player and it’s a tremendous privilege to be named in the players’ team,” said Galekovic.

“The standard on the pitch has never been higher and the quality of those selected in the team of the season highlights this.”
