Three foreign A-League stars are up for the PFA’s A-League Player of the Month for May with Melbourne City FC’s Englishman Craig Noone, Wellington Phoenix’s Israeli Tomer Hemed and Sydney FC’s Brazilian striker Bobô nominated. Between them, the three attackers netted 10 goals in their six respective matches throughout May.
The trio have been revealed by the PFA Nominations committee – a panel of former players and leading media figures – with the winner to be voted on by A-League players. Check out the nominees below.
Craig Noone – Melbourne City FC
The former Bolton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Brighton and Hove attacker will forever remembered for heading home the decisive goal that sealed the first-ever A-League Premiers Plate for Melbourne City in a 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners in May.
But the 33-year-old’s impact extended beyond that goal as City marched towards its first title. The former Liverpool academy product produced two assists, including teeing up Scott Galloway for City’s second goal in a 4-1 thumping of the Reds at AAMI Park. The left-winger’s other assist came in a 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar when Noone set up the opener for in-form midfielder Connor Metcalfe.
Tomer Hemed – Wellington Phoenix
Wellington Phoenix narrowly missed qualification for the 2021 Finals Series after an impressive run of form in the back end of the regular season. The Nix’s Israeli centre forward, Tomer Hemed, was largely responsible for Wellington’s form, scoring five times in six matches throughout May.
The striker scored in four consecutive matches, including a double against City in a 2-2 draw, including an 88th minute equaliser, and singles in wins over Western United (3-0) and Western Sydney (2-1) and in a draw with Perth Glory (2-2).
Bobô – Sydney FC
Just behind Hemed with a haul of four goals during May was Sydney FC’s Brazilian Bobô. The Sky Blues’ striker scored in two Sydney Derbies – including the sole winner on May 23, and in important wins against Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United to cement a second-placed finish on the ladder.
