Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Chief Executive Beau Busch has been appointed President of FIFPRO Asia/Oceania.

Busch succeeds Takuya Yamazaki, who will now serve on FIFPRO’s global board and will continue as a member of the FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Board.

FIFPRO Asia/Oceania represents professional footballers across 12 member unions, including the PFA, in the Asia and Oceania region.

As part of FIFPRO, the global representative organisation for professional footballers, it is committed to advancing player rights, welfare, and working conditions.

Joining Busch in leadership are newly elected Vice Presidents Anna Green of the New Zealand Professional Footballers’ Association (NZPFA) and Izham Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of the Professional Footballers’ Association of Malaysia (PFAM).

Rounding out the six-person board are Salman Al-Ansari of the Qatar Players Association (QPA) and Hyebin Kang of Korea Pro-Footballers’ Association (KPFA), reflecting the diversity of the region.

In his first statement as President, Beau Busch said: “It is a privilege to represent the region’s players and their unions and one that comes with enormous responsibility.

“This Board is the recipient of a significant inheritance from those who came before us and we are determined to honour this by continuing to advance the collective interests of the players and the industry.

“This generation of players and their unions have an opportunity to reshape football to deliver a better industry for the players that follow them.”

The General Assembly also allowed FIFPRO Asia/Oceania to recognise the invaluable contributions of outgoing board member Cyrus Confectioner from the Football Players Association of India (FPAI). Paying tribute to Confectioner, Takuya Yamazaki said:

“Cyrus has been an incredible leader within the Division, helping to strengthen our unions and empower professional footballers throughout Asia and Oceania.

“We look forward to the new board building on the groundwork established by Cyrus and the previous board members and I welcome Beau, as President, and Anna and Izham as Vice Presidents, to their new roles.”
