Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) has today announced an event partnership with the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM).
The partnership will see the PFA’s most prestigious event – The Alex Tobin OAM Medal – held at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Friday May 23.
With Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer to become the latest recipient of the players’ highest honour the event will also see the unveiling of the PFA A-League Team of the Season and PFA scholarship winners for 2014.
PFA Chief Executive Adam Vivian said the Australian National Maritime Museum was a fitting venue for recognising the outstanding contribution of the players to Australian football.
“We are delighted to be able to hold the PFA’s most prestigious event in a venue that is more than worthy of such an occasion,” said Vivian.
“As well as finding a fitting venue for the awards it was equally important to find a partner that shared the same values as the PFA. Through their outstanding initiative of the Welcome Wall, where the contribution of migrants to Australian society is celebrated, the Australian National Maritime Museum has demonstrated its commitment to multiculturalism.
“This initiative is something that the PFA is extremely proud to be associated with. It is our hope that the Tobin Medal will be the first of many events that the PFA will hold at the Australian National Maritime Museum and that the partnership will continue to grow.”
Australian National Maritime Museum Director Kevin Sumption said: “we are excited to be partnering with PFA to host their most prestigious event – The Alex Tobin OAM medal.
“Migration and multiculturalism are major themes for the museum and, with football being such a multicultural sport, we were delighted that PFA were partners in our recent Welcome Wall unveiling ceremony.”
