The Socceroos continue to produce as Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) calls for Football Federation Australia (FFA) to back the country’s professional players with a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
Following the Socceroos 5-0 victory over Bangladesh, PFA Chief Executive Adam Vivian said the players’ professionalism, and that of their A-League and Matildas counterparts, demonstrated their commitment to the game.
“Whilst there are still many obstacles to overcome, a new CBA can be reached quickly,” said Vivian.
“The past few months undoubtedly been difficult for all of the game’s stakeholders. The players understand the frustration of the football community regarding the length of time this process has taken.
“The players, like all fans, want to reach an agreement and it is certainly not in the best interests of the players or the game to have this hanging over their heads.
“Currently, respect for the players is missing from the negotiations. This must be change if we are to move forward and continue to grow the game.
“Australian football faces a simple one. The rights of the players, and their contribution, can be respected and we can move forward and compete with other football codes at home and abroad. Or, we can be divided.
“The players are willing to shoulder their responsibility and work in partnership with all stakeholders, as they share the same ambition for the game as the football community – continued progress.”
