What is Common Goal?
Common Goal is a global network that activates the power of football to bring people together and deliver positive, society-wide change.
We’re a football-focused network that connects the cultural and financial influence of the industry with local organisations dismantling inequality and building a better future for all.
Is this Juan Mata’s charity?
Juan Mata was the first professional football player to join Common Goal back in 2017, he is one of our co-founders, and is a member of our advisory board.
Juan is an engaged member who has shown a commitment to social change through football and we love that he’s been such an integral part of Common Goal.
How does it work?
Common Goal identifies and collaborates with a global network of vetted sport for development organisations, providing young people with life-changing opportunities.
We work to connect players, brands, clubs, and the whole world of football with these local organisations dismantling inequality.
Our ultimate goal is to drive systemic change through football and create an even playing field for all.
Why football?
Football is at the heart of everything we do because the joy of the beautiful game has the potential to change hundreds of millions of lives, on the pitch and off it.
Football has shown itself to be one of the most impactful social phenomena in the world and we believe we can harness that power to drive real and lasting change.
What is the Football for Good Program?
In partnership between the PFA and Common Goal, the Football For Good Program is committed to driving positive community impact through football in Australia.
From supporting the integration of young refugees to unlocking equal opportunities for women, Football for Good aims to build a society where everyone gets a fair shot—on and off the football field.
What is the 1% model?
When Common Goal launched the idea was that everyone would give the same: 1%.
1% may seem like a small figure, but it can make a big difference. If the entire football community pledged just 1% of its collective income, the change that could be created in communities is monumental.
Who can get involved?
We encourage everyone to get involved! Whether you’re playing in Australia or overseas, in activity or retired, there is a way that you can help drive change through football.
How much of the money raised goes directly to the field?
Between 90% and 100% of your donations will go directly to football for good organisations. The remainder is used to cover operating expenses related to enabling tax deductibility outside of Australia when applicable.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Where possible, pledge donations to Common Goal are facilitated through partner foundations that are part of the Myriad Alliance. This allows our members to donate to Common Goal while still obtaining the tax advantages provided for in the legislation of their country of residence.
Is my pledge legally binding?
No. The pledge is based on an informal agreement between you and Common Goal. While we expect you to honour our agreement, there is no legal obligation for you to do so. You’re free to walk away at any time. No questions asked.
How long does my membership last?
Your membership with Common Goal becomes official with your first annual donation and remains active for as long as you continue to honour the pledge. If you decide Common Goal isn’t for you, you’re welcome to walk away at any stage along the journey.
