Joel Griffiths – winner of the 2008 Johnny Warren Medal and Golden Boot Award
The PFA would like to congratulate all the award winners at the 2008 A-League Awards. Newcastle Jets striker Joel Griffiths was awarded the Johnny Warren Medal, as the A-League’s best player this season. Joel also won the Golden Boot Award, top-scoring in the A-League with 12 goals during the A-League regular season.
Adelaide United’s Bruce Djite received the Rising Star Award as the best young player in the competition, while Melbourne Victory custodian Michael Theoklitos collected the inaugural Goalkeeper of the Year Award.
Sydney FC’s Brendon Santalab won the Goal of the Season award and Mark Shield received the Referee of the Year award. Newcastle won the Fair Play Award while their coach Gary van Egmond was named Coach of the Year.
PFA Executive Chairman Brendan Schwab said, “Congratulations to all the award winners. Their awards mark a fitting conclusion to their outstanding season.”
