The Matildas’ friendly this morning at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California, showcased some of Australian football’s true up-and-coming talent.

PFA Chief Executive, Nick Holland said “the performance from the Matildas was particularly encouraging given the young side that was fielded by Coach Tom Sermanni.”

Holland went on to sing the praises of the team, “to have achieved the right balance of youth and experience is a promising sign for the future of the women’s national side.  The Matildas fielded 8 teenagers who were ably led by the more experienced campaigners in the side and the result was a really spirited, exciting and courageous performance.”

Despite the narrow defeat, the Matildas finished the game with their heads held high and their teenage players gaining valuable international experience against a team ranked number 1 in the world and in front of a crowd of almost 20,000 fans.

The PFA congratulates the Matildas and Tom Sermanni on their US campaign and wishes them all the best for the remainder of the tour.
