A 15-year-old enters the record books, duo debut for Western United and a host of impending milestones feature in this week’s Milestone Monday…
One of the A-League’s brightest young stars became the competition’s youngest ever-goal scorer on Friday night, as Mohamed Toure scored late in Adelaide United’s 2-0 win over Central Coast Mariners.
Having only made his senior debut for the Reds last week – and in the process becoming the A-League’s third youngest ever player to feature in the competition – Toure bettered his first outing with a goal in his second.
At just 15 years and 325 days, Toure leap-frogged the Tommy Oar, who was 17 in 2008 when he first set the record with Brisbane Roar 12 years ago.
The A-League record also places Toure on the all-time goal-scorers list in Australian domestic league history, behind Brisbane Lions’ Danny Wright (15 years, 289 days in ‘80) and Nick Carle (15 years, 316 days in ’97).
For the Mariners, Chris Harold made his starting debut after scoring last week off the bench in the F3 Derby, and the former Perth Glory midfielder went close to a second stunning goal in as many games, shaving the cross bar with a first-half volley.
On Sunday in Ballarat, new Western United signing, Japanese defender Tomoki Imai, featured against Brisbane Roar, while 20-year-old former Melbourne Victory midfielder Thiel Iradukunda earned his first A-League start.
