PFA A-League Team of the Season Goalkeeper Nominees Announced

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce the goalkeeper nominees for the 2015/16 PFA A-League Team of the Season.

Voted on by all of the PFA’s A-League members, the nominees were the four goalkeepers who polled the most votes.

With the team set to be announced during Grand Final week, the four nominees are:

>> Thomas Sorensen (Melbourne City);

>> Mark Birighitti (Newcastle Jets);

>> Eugene Galekovic (Adelaide United); and

>> Danny Vukovic (Melbourne Victory).

Former English Premier League star Sorensen has enjoyed a brilliant debut A-League campaign with the Denmark International having played a starring role in his side’s quest for the Premiership.

Having returned to the A-League after a loan stint in Italy last season, Birighitti was in remarkable form during the 2015/16 season with the shot stopper regularly amongst the Jets best and recently scooping the pool at their annual awards night.

After departing Perth Glory at the end of last season, Vukovic was once again amongst the competition’s outstanding keepers in his debut season for the Victory.

Eyeing a record sixth appearance in the PFA A-League Team of the Season, Galekovic said he was thrilled to be named as one of the nominees for the PFA A-League Team of the Season.

“The standard of goalkeeping across the league this season has been extremely high and I’m very proud to have received enough votes from the players to be named amongst the nominees,” said the Reds captain.

“Recognition from your peers is the highest honour you can receive as a player and this is why the PFA A-League Team of the Season means so much to the players.”
