Professional Footballers Australia (the PFA) has partnered with Melbourne-based Elite Training and Sports Medicine to deliver a Performance Camp in late December to support out-of-contract and returning overseas players.

Held between December 23-29, the Performance Camp will be designed to provide football-specific training to assist Australia’s footballers in maintaining their fitness during the festive period.

Elite provides high-performance training programs for athletes and has worked with a range of Australian professional players, including Ben Garuccio, Mark Milligan, Archie Thompson, Steven Lustica, Kaine Sheppard and Jonathan Aspropotamitis.

“We found that during the festive season footballers on break decrease in overall performance and find it harder to gain once they’re back in team pre-season,” Elite High Performance Coach Michael Varko said.

Designed to train footballers with the emphasis on enhancing strength, explosiveness, mobility and recovery, the Camp will involve structured programming delivered by experienced strength and conditioning coaches and a sports medicine team of physiotherapists.
