Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce the nominees for the PFA A-League and W-League Players of the Month for January respectively.
Proudly supported by major partner LUCRF Super and Victoria University, the nominees are as follows:

>> Ellie Carpenter, Canberra United
>> Clare Polkinghorne, Brisbane Roar FC
>> Katie Stengel, Newcastle Jets
Arzani was instrumental for Melbourne City FC throughout the club’s six matches in January, the 19 year old midfielder making a major impact including scoring his debut A-League goal in the 2-2 draw with the Newcastle Jets.
Barbarouses found the back of the net four times in as many games for Melbourne Victory, the New Zealand international’s impressive month highlighted by a brace in a comprehensive win over Western Sydney Wanderers FC.
In what his second straight Player of the Month nomination, Bobo continues to demonstrate why he is the most prolific striker in the A-League, scoring another five times in January to help Sydney FC maintain their unbeaten start to 2018.
PFA President, Alex Wilkinson commended the trio on their nominations and performances in the opening month of 2018.
“Congratulations to the three nominees, they have all started the New Year exceptionally well,” said Wilkinson.
In the nominees for the W-League Player of the Month, Carpenter was a shining light for a Canberra United side that endured two wins, a draw and a loss for the month, the 17 year old Matilda also proving she can be a goal scoring threat as found the back of the net twice.
Polkinghorne has been a key figure in Brisbane Roar’s rise this season, the veteran defender continuing to be a rock in defence throughout January which has seen the Roar enjoy the best record for goals against in the league.
American import Stengel’s nomination was headlined by a scintillating performance against Canberra United, her hat-trick inspiring the Newcastle Jets to their first ever win in the nation’s capital.
PFA Executive, Lydia Williams congratulated the players on their nomination.
“Ellie, Clare and Katie were standout performers in January and have fittingly been rewarded with nominations to become the first Player of the Month of 2018,” said Williams.
The winners will be announced in the coming days.
