Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce the 2017/18 PFA W-League Team of the Season.

The team features a host of world class players and outstanding talents who lit up the tenth season of the Westfield W-League.

Brisbane Roar FC, who claimed the Premiers Plate, have the highest number of representatives with five players in the starting eleven.

Championship winners Melbourne City FC have three players in the team, runners up Sydney FC have four (three of those being substitutes), with the remaining four spots taken up by Perth Glory and the Newcastle Jets, who have two players each.

Proudly supported by PFA Major Partner LUCRF Super, the 2017/18 PFA W-League Team of the Season, as chosen by the players, is as follows:

Melbourne City FC’s Welsh star Jess Fishlock and Matildas quartet Steph Catley, Katrina Gorry, Sam Kerr and Clare Polkinghorne all make their second appearance in the team after being named in the inaugural PFA W-League Team of the Season last year.

Having played an integral part in Brisbane Roar FC finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the regular season and also finishing with the best defensive record, Polkinghorne was named captain of the PFA W-League Team of the Season.

“As a player, it is always special to be voted into the team which is voted by your peers and to be named captain is something I am very proud of,” said Polkinghorne.

“We achieved some great things at Brisbane Roar this season, and there’s no doubt I have my teammates to thank for this honour. They were all immense this season.”

PFA President Alex Wilkinson said the players selected in the team emphasized the high quality and growing stature of the Westfield W-League.

“On behalf of the PFA Executive I would like to congratulate each of the players selected in the 2017/18 PFA W-League Team of the Season,” said Wilkinson.

“The reputation of the league continues to grow and we have seen that through the calibre of the players who have graced the field this season and also through the standard of the football that was played.

“All of the players who featured in the W-League this season should be commended for taking the women’s game in this country to another level and demonstrating its potential.
