Canberra United’s Ashleigh Sykes is line to become the first player to win back-to-back awards after the forward was today announced as one of four nominees for Professional Footballers Australia’s (PFA) W-League Player of the Month for December.

Having won the award for November Sykes is joined in the nominees list by Melbourne City’s Kim Little, Brisbane Roar’s Katrina Gorry and Melbourne Victory’s Natasha Dowie.

Chosen by an awards committee made of Matildas legends and leading figures in the Australian football media, Sykes continued her outstanding form this season scoring three goals and leading United to two wins for December.

Scottish forward Little equaled Sykes’ scoring rate and she continues to star for the unbeaten City who have already sealed the W-League Premiership.

Nominated for the first time this season, Matildas ace Gorry has impressed for the sixth placed Roar who are eyeing up a finals spot.

Scoring once during December, the Victory’s Dowie has also been nominated for the first time this season for the award.

PFA Executive Member Lydia Williams said all four nominees were worthy of the recognition.

“I would like to congratulate the four nominees,” said Williams.

“The players will face a tough task to pick a winner.

“All four were in great form during December and have played a big part in what has been a fantastic W-League season so far.”
