Former A-League Men’s midfielder Tim Brown will share the inspirational story behind developing a multi-billion-dollar company with PFA Members next week.
The exclusive webinar will be delivered on Wednesday, 19 January, to PFA Members, including those within the Past Players Program, and is part of a series of webinars offered through the PFA’s Player Development Program and the soon to be launched Players’ Journey.
In October last year, members had the opportunity to hear from former Arsenal defender and England International Tony Adams MBE and his personal journey recovering from alcoholism and establishing the Sporting Chance foundation.
Brown’s webinar will focus on the challenges and successes of entrepreneurship as well as finding purpose during and after a career in football.
A professional footballer for New Zealand, Brown captained the All Whites and helped them qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He featured for Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix in the A-League Men’s competition for six seasons between 2006-2012.
After swapping football for business development, Brown established and then co-founded sustainable footwear and apparel company, Allbirds in 2016.
While Allbirds emerged from humble beginnings, the company attracted early investment from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and has been worn and endorsed by former US President Barack Obama, actors Emma Watson, Jennifer Garner and Mila Kunis and celebrity Oprah Winfrey, Allbirds is now valued at US$3.3 billion.
Brown will join Sky Sports NZ football commentator Jason Pine to discuss his football career, retirement, transition into business and the success of Allbirds.
PFA Co-Chief Executive Kathryn Gill said that the webinar would be a fantastic opportunity for all PFA Members to understand the importance of preparing for life after football and learn from Brown’s success on and off the pitch.
“Tim’s story is truly remarkable and reflects how his career as a footballer can translate into success, purpose and fulfilment in retirement.
“The story behind Allbirds will be really valuable for our members. Tim has developed so much experience and acquired knowledge in the competitive worlds of football and business, which will inspire our members to hopefully seek out new challenges.”
