Professional Footballers Australia pays homage to Socceroos Captain Lucas Neill after his 50th cap wearing the captain’s armband this morning.
PFA President Simon Colosimo acknowledged Neill’s extensive contribution to Australian football saying, ‘to represent your country at a senior level on 81 occasions is worth praise in itself. To lead the team on 50 occasions as well puts him in an exclusive class and is testimony to him being one of Australia’s football greats.’
Neill’s achievement of 50 caps as captain makes him only the second player to achieve the milestone along with Peter Wilson with 60 caps.
PFA Chief Executive Nick Holland also sang the praises of Neill as he led for his 50th time as Australian captain. ‘Lucas’ display of leadership both on and off the field is a true testament to his character. His commitment to the Socceroos is exceptional and he is an inspiration to the younger players within the game.’
