Roy Krishna has been named the Professional Footballers Australia (the PFA) Player of the Month for January – an award nominated by a committee comprised of former players and leading figures in the Australian football media and voted on by the players.

The Fijian flyer has enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2018/19 season, scoring 12 goals in 19 appearances and becoming the highest goal scorer in Phoenix’s history, leapfrogging club legend Paul Ifill on 33 goals.

That wasn’t the only record Krishna has achieved this season; he also netted twice in three consecutive games; an A-League record for any player with a unique ‘triple double’.

Krishna scored the winner late against Western Sydney Wanderers to secure all three points for Wellington in a goal-fest before completing a double against Central Coast Mariners to claw back from 2-0 down.

The high-scoring striker is overjoyed at the recognition of his recent achievements but believes the focus still lies with the team.

‘‘It’s been a fantastic year for me personally and professionally, playing some my best football in the Hyundai A-League.’’

‘‘But I couldn’t have won this award without my teammates and all the hard work they consistently put in as a team.

‘‘Mark Rudan has come in and lifted me to a level I knew was still possible but that belief in me has been critical to my success.

‘‘I now want to concentrate on winning more awards as a team and hopefully, we can begin that by getting ourselves into the Finals.’’
