The six nominees for the final Austraffic PFA Player of the Month have been locked in, with the A-League Men regular season coming to an end this week.

Each of the players in the running for the peer-voted PFA award were selected by a panel of former players and experts, who nominated the individuals based off their performances throughout the final rounds of the season in April.

Unlike previous months, there will only be an A-League Men award handed out for April as the A-League Women season ended in the first weekend of the month. Hence it was combined with the March award to make it the ‘March-April’ Player of the Month which was won by Melbourne City’s Rebekah Stott.

Nominees must be PFA members to be eligible for the award.

PFA Members will receive a link from the PFA to vote on the nominees this week. Take a look at the nominees, below.

Marcus Younis (Melbourne City)

Younis lived up to his tagline of the ‘Human Highlight Reel’ with an amazing end to the regular season which helped lead Melbourne City to a finals berth. The 20-year-old attacker scored five goals and tallied two assists during April, as the reigning champions won three out of four games en route to securing a 12th straight appearance in the finals. Younis’ performances during his return to Australia on loan from Danish side Brondby have now catapulted him into conversations about a late call-up to the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup squad, ending the regular season with 10 goal contributions from 11 league matches.

Ethan Alagich (Adelaide United)

Alagich’s rise to prominence in the heart of Adelaide’s midfield continued throughout the final weeks of the season, playing a starring role en route to the Reds securing a top two berth. The son of Reds legend Richard and nephew of fellow club legend Dianne helped Adelaide extend their unbeaten run to 10 straight games going into finals, with a series of starring performances especially in crucial matches against Auckland and Melbourne City.

Eli Adams (Newcastle Jets)

Another month, another nomination for Adams. The winner of the January iteration of the award, Adams continued his brilliant season to help Newcastle wrap up the A-League Men Premiership in the final rounds of the season. Adams bagged an all-important brace against his former club Melbourne Victory, which put Newcastle in the box seat to secure the Premier’s Plate and the deed was sealed when Auckland lost two days later against Central Coast Mariners. The forward added another moment to his already brilliant highlight reel with a stunning goal and an assist in their demolition of the Central Coast the following week, as he and his teammates celebrated winning the Plate in-front of their home fans.

Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney FC)

Devenish-Meares wrapped up a brilliant season between the sticks by helping his side to a return to the finals. The Sydney FC goalkeeper kept three consecutive clean sheets during the final weeks of the campaign, taking his tally to a league-high 11 for the season. He also topped the save percentage (79.8%) and goals prevented (6.6) charts as well as finishing second for saves per 90 (3.8), capping off an impressive campaign for the 29-year-old.

Daniel Wilmering (Newcastle Jets)

Another of the Jets’ finest players this season, Wilmering has shone all campaign and stamped himself as one of the league’s most dangerous attacking full-backs. The 25-year-old finished the season second in the assists chart with eight, only beaten by Spanish footballing legend Juan Mata who had 13 for the campaign. Wilmering also added a solitary goal for the season in Newcastle’s draw with Adelaide.

Ali Auglah (Central Coast Mariners)

Auglah made the most of his opportunity with Central Coast in the second-half of the season, almost helping the Mariners to an unlikely finals berth following a string of sensational performances. The winger bagged three of his five goals for the season during April, including the all-important winner away to Auckland FC, which helped Newcastle win the Premier’s Plate. This comes only months after starring in the Australian Championship with Sydney Olympic, which as a result, earned him another opportunity in the A-League Men with Central Coast in the January transfer window and now has him knocking on the door of a place in Iraq’s FIFA World Cup squad.
