Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce Adelaide United forward Sofia Huerta and Newcastle Jets forward Andrew Nabbout as the PFA W-League and A-League Players of the Month for January.
Voted on by all of the PFA’s A-League and W-League members, the pair enjoyed a brilliant month scoring 10 goals and starring for their respective clubs.
Having been narrowly edged out by Marco Rojas for December’s PFA A-League Player of the Month, Nabbout said he was thrilled to have won the award.
“It’s a massive honour for me to be receiving this award especially because it was voted by the players in the league,” said Nabbout.
“To be recognised for my efforts by my teammates and opponents is a massive deal to me and something I’m very proud of and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.”
Having scored six goals in five games throughout January, Adelaide United W-League Head Coach Hussein Skenderovic said Huerta was a worthy recipient of the award.
“Sofia’s performances throughout her debut W-League season were outstanding and none more so than throughout January where she was instrumental in our unbeaten month,” said Skenderovic.
“She proved herself to be amongst the very best in the competition and is deserving of the players’ recognition.”
PFA President Alex Wilkinson congratulated Nabbout and Huerta.
“Sofia and Andrew were outstanding in January, with their goals and general performances contributing a huge amount to a brilliant month for the A-League and the W-League,” said Wilkinson.
“On behalf of our members congratulations to them both. I wish Andrew all the best for the remainder of the campaign and hope to see Sofia starring again in the W-League next season.”
