Adelaide United and Melbourne City players dominate as Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) announced the nominees for the PFA A-League Player of the Month for January.
Having scored 21 goals between them in just four matches, the six nominees were selected by an awards committee made of former Socceroos and leading figures in the Australian football media.
The nominees for the PFA A-League Player of the Month for January:
>> Diego Castro, Perth Glory;
>> Harry Novillo, Melbourne City;
>> Bruno Fornaroli, Melbourne City;
>> Craig Goodwin, Adelaide United;
>> Marcelo Carrusca, Adelaide United; and
>> Mark Bridge, Western Sydney Wanderers.
Castro’s nomination comes after an outstanding January, with the Glory attacker scoring five goals and playing a starring role in the club’s two wins and a draw.
Equaling Castro’s haul of five goals in four games, Melbourne City forward Novillo has been in devastating form for the club as they chase the Premiership.
Fornaroli’s nomination comes after he was awarded the PFA A-League Player of the Month award for December, with the Uruguayan’s performances setting the league alight.
Having led the club to four wins for January and scoring five goals between them, Goodwin and Carrusca’s nominations follow what has been a stellar month for the Reds.
On target on three occasions during January, Bridge has been instrumental in the Wanderers table-topping season to date.
PFA President Matt McKay said the six nominees had all played major roles in what was a spectacular January on the pitch.
“The impact that these players have had on the competition has been immense and I congratulate them all on this deserved recognition,” said McKay.
“This season has proved just how much attacking talent we have in the A-League and these six players are amongst the very best. “
