Professional Footballers Australia Inc (PFA) today announced that the 2011 PFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Tuesday 4 October 2011.
As in recent years, the PFA AGM will be held at the offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers and by telephone/video conference. The AGM will consider the key developments of the players’ body in 2010/11, which despite being a challenging year for the game, saw the PFA secure major collective bargaining agreements for all Socceroos, Matildas and A-League players.
In addition to its collective negotiations, the meeting will consider the work of the players’ body in its key areas:
• player advocacy;
• player health and safety;
• the PFA’s player education, development and wellbeing programs;
• PFA work in the community;
• the PFA’s work with FIFPro, the world players’ union, especially in Asia and Oceania; and
• the financial development and performance of the PFA.
PFA business to be considered includes:
• the appointment of long serving PFA member Clint Bolton as a Life Member to join 2011 inductee and former Melbourne Heart and Sydney FC teammate, John Aloisi. Bolton has been a member of the PFA every year since joining the association in the year of its formation as an 18 year old with Brisbane Strikers;
• the PFA’s collective bargaining strategies for the next 2 years in the lead up to the renegotiation of Australian football’s broadcast rights; and
• the consideration of 2 important resolutions regarding the PFA Executive:
o the ratification of the appointment of Melbourne Victory skipper Adrian Leijer to the PFA Executive to fill the casual vacancy created by the retirement of long serving PFA Executive and Life Member, Kevin Muscat; and
o the extension of the term of office of current PFA Chief Executive Brendan Schwab until 30 November 2013 to encompass the next round of collective bargaining.
All Full Members of the PFA are entitled to attend the AGM or appoint a fellow Full Member as their proxy to vote on their behalf.
The PFA will be in contact with all PFA Executive members and PFA Delegates to arrange for their attendance at the AGM in Sydney. The AGM is on the afternoon of the official A-League season launch to be held that morning and will be followed in the evening by the Australian Football Awards which include the annual PFA Footballers of the Year Awards.
