Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) is pleased to announce the nominees for the PFA W-League Player of the Month for October.

Having been established ahead of this season the inaugural nominees were selected by an awards committee made up of former Matildas and leading figures in the Australian football media.

With the four shortlisted players now to be voted on by W-League players, the PFA W-League Player of the Month nominees for October are:

>> Teresa Polias, Sydney FC;

>> Leena Khamis, Sydney FC;

>> Marianna Tabain, Melbourne City; and

>> Tameka Butt, Brisbane Roar.

Melbourne City forward Tabian’s nomination caps a stellar opening three rounds of the season, with the former Perth Glory player scoring on three occasions to lead her team to an undefeated start.

Despite having missed round two of the competition due to her Matildas commitments, Butt, who recently won her 50th Matildas cap, has been in impressive form scoring once as the Roar have made a strong start to the season.

Scoring twice in round three Khamis is joined in the nominees by Sky Blues teammate Polias, who has impressed on return from the World Cup.

PFA Chief Executive Adam Vivian said all four nominees were deserving of their recognition.

“These players have all been instrumental in what has been an extremely encouraging start to the W-League,” said Vivian.

“We have seen the standard on the pitch rise year on year and this season has proved to be no different.

“With the Matildas set to undertake important Olympic qualifiers shortly it is extremely encouraging to see our top female players performing at such a high level.”
