Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) announces Melbourne Victory forward Kosta Barbarouses as the PFA A-League Player of the Month for October.
The outstanding form of Melbourne Victory forward Kosta Barbarouses in the opening four rounds of the 2014/15 season has been honored with the Kiwi forward named as the PFA A-League Player of the Month for October.
Having been announced amongst the six nominees selected by the awards committee, which is made up of former Socceroos and leading figures in the Australian football media, Barbarouses was named as the inaugural winner of the award following a vote of the PFA’s A-League members.
Instrumental in the club’s unbeaten start to the season, the Victory star provided six assists for the club’s 12 goals in October to edge out teammate Besart Berisha, Andy Keogh, Milos Dimitrijevic, Marcelo Carrusca and Sergio Cirio as the Player of the Month.
“To have been voted by the players as the Player of the Month is a huge honor,” said Barbarouses. “All players want the respect and trust of their teammates and their fellow professionals and these awards mean a lot because they show that you have earned that.
“The start of the season has been hugely encouraging for the club and for me personally and this award just tops that off. I would like to thank my teammates who have been outstanding and they have made it possible for me to win this award.”
PFA Chief Executive Adam Vivian paid tribute Barbarouses and said the forward’s performances were more than worthy of seeing him named as the inaugural recipient of the PFA A-League Player of the Month.
“On behalf of all of the PFA’s A-League members I would like to congratulate Kosta on this well deserved recognition,” said Vivian. “His displays in the opening four rounds of the season have been truly outstanding by any ones standards. To be responsible for providing over half of the Victory’s goals illustrates just how dominant Kosta had been in October.”
