The outstanding form of Sydney FC’s Marc Janko is honoured with the Austrian forward announced as the PFA A-League Player of the Month for February.

Having scored six goals in four games during February, Janko becomes just the fourth recipient of the player voted award.

Edging out nominees Milos Dimitrijevic, Kosta Barbarouses, Aaron Mooy, Danny Vukovic and Jean Carlos Solorzano, the Sky Blues star was instrumental in the club’s extremely impressive month.

Upon receiving the award Janko said it capped a fantastic period for himself and the club.

“It’s an honour to be announced as the player of the month,” said Janko. “I take it as a team award because I can’t do all this without my teammates and the prize is because of them and big thanks goes to them.

“In the beginning there were some problems for me, I came out of two difficult years in Turkey where I did not play and I finally found my rhythm again due to the patience of the Coach and the club who always believed in me.”

PFA President Matt McKay hailed the impact the forward has made on the A-League.

“Marc’s form has lit up the A-League and the impression he has made on Sydney FC but also on the whole competition has been massive,” said the Socceroos midfielder.

“His goals record stands for itself but his general play, work ethic and drive to be successful has been just as evident throughout his time in Australia.

“It is integral for Australian football to attract players of the highest possible caliber, which Marc most certainly is, and hopefully we will continue to see him play in the A-League for a long time to come.”
